pjotrberchem:

The Age of Collage is the first international group exhibition on contemporary collage.

In collage, raw visual material is collected and then combined in such a way as to abstract the individual elements enough that the artist’s own vision becomes prominent. Because its references range from other artistic works and techniques to scientific images, pop culture, and erotica, this material and the resulting compositions reflect humanity’s collective visual memory and context.

Featured Artists: Ashkan Honarvar, Astrid Klein, Beni Bischof, Beth Hoeckel, Brandi Strickland, Charles Wilkin, Dennis Busch, Dominic McGill, Eva Eun-sil Han, Geoff J. Kim, James Gallagher, Jesse Draxler, John Stezaker, Jordan Clark, John Vincent Aranda, Jose Romussi, Julia Busch, Katrien de Blauwer, Kerstin Stephan, Leigh Wells, Liam Crockard, Linder Sterling, Luis Dourado, Matthieu Bourel, Max-o-matic, Nathaniel Whitcomb, Nils Karsten, Noa Giniger, Ruth van Beek, Sergei Sviatchenko, and Virginia Echeverria.

There`s also a book about the Age of Collage

New Video: Around The World

The Atlas for Today

The world is an amazing place, filled with complexity and contradiction. Today, we swim in floods of data and ideas, numbers and phrases that appear on our screens and in our media. Fortunately, we have storytellers and visual interpreters who explain, graphically, how something happened and what went on. Individually, they help us understand a single issue. Together, they explain a slice of the world.

Our recent book Around The World is filled with these remarkable stories and helpful infographics collected from countries spanning the globe. This is the world that we live in, beautiful and complicated, drawn out and explained. Learn a bit more about it in this video.

“The Age of Collage: A Group Exhibition of Contemporary Collage” just opened at Gestalten Space last night! Thank you to everyone who joined us for such an artistically stimulating evening.

Arising out of cubism, the medium of collage has been used and expanded by Dadaists, futurists, surrealists, and pop artists over the last 100 years—and its evolution continues with unabated enthusiasm.

In this exhibition, 31 artists reveal the boundless possibilities and diversity of this timeless yet timely artistic technique. These artists include: Ashkan Honarvar, Astrid Klein, Beni Bischof, Beth Hoeckel, Brandi Strickland, Charles Wilkin, Dennis Busch, Linder Sterling, Dominic McGill, Eva Eun-sil Han, Geoff J. Kim, James Gallagher, Jesse Draxler, John Stezaker, Jordan Clark, John Vincent Aranda, Jose Romussi, Julia Busch, Katrien de Blauwer, Kerstin Stephan, Leigh Wells, Liam Crockard, Luis Dourado, Matthieu Bourel, Max-o-matic, Nathaniel Whitcomb, Nils Karsten, Noa Giniger, Ruth van Beek, Sergei Sviatchenko, and Virginia Echeverria.

The accompanying book The Age of Collage presents an even wider survey of theste outstanding current artwork and artists. This group show is running at Gestalten Space until January 5, 2014. Invite your friends via Facebook event.
